20 | NOVA EUROPA, or, which world is the old one?
In this concert, our notions of old and new will be properly shaken up. That is primarily due to the passionate and emotional whirlwinds emanating from the young ensemble,SecondaPrat!ca. At the same time, the program invites us to question our usage of the terms Old and New World. “Nova Europa” – these are songs and dances of the “old” continents of America, Africa, and Asia that are prepared to fire up the “holy earnestness” of European music history. A spirited evening, one that shows how rewarding it is to not stop at the boundaries of Europe while considering music history.
At the renowned Baroque Festival Ambronay in 2014, the young musicians captivated their audience who responded with rapturous applause, at the same time they were convincing to a distinguished international jury; in 2015, they gave a highly acclaimed premiere at the Handel Festival in Göttingen. Today, the Ensemble SecondaPrat!ca are among the first graduates of a new European elite program, “EEEmerging”, for up-and-coming musicians in the field of early-music.
This concert is presented in cooperation with the international scholarship program EEEmerging.
