Sonic worlds of the soul – a tribute to Burkhard Grossmann and his collection: “Fear of Hell, Peace of Souls”
“Because of special great blessings and the wonderful salvation of God, as revealed to me by him in the year of 1616 after encountering the 116th Psalm of David out of fatherly mercy, kindness and compassion”, wrote the official tax collector Burckhard Großmann from Juna as he created a very unique “offering of thanks”. He commissioned 16 composers to write 5-part settings of the 116th Psalm and published these works in 1623 as a collection with the title: “Fear of Hell, Peace of Souls”. The CXVI Psalm of David appears in print. Among the commissioned musicians were Schütz, Schein, Praetorius, Franck, Demantius and Rogier Michael. Exactly 400 years later, the Lautten Compagney Berlin presents this important piece of Central Germany music history.
The concert is in collaboration with the endowment of the Frauenkirche Dresden.
