Between old and new, near and far – traditional Iraqi music and original compositions for the Arabian Lute and Frame Drums.
“Like an infinitely flowing stream of water, the rhythm of the drums carries the sighs, the laments, and the wild shouts of joy of the oud. “
Let us journey to a perhaps surprising source of early-modern culture. Already the history of the word shows us: the European lute, since the noble art of the Minnesingers epitomized chivalrous and courtly behavior, is an instrument with a migrant background. Through the crusaders, over Moorish Spain, and over the Byzantine Empire bordering on Persia came this “sounding wood” (the actual meaning of “oud”). The oud is one of the oldest instruments known to mankind. Traces and portrayals of the instrument go back to the 22nd century before Christ. And this Arabic lute is an especially beautiful instrument.
